The original design for the JMI AC-30 B+ power supply included a GZ-34 full wave rectifier tube and a choke. This allowed the chassis to act as a heat sink for the tube sockets. While some earlier versions of the AC-30 had tube sockets mounted directly to the main PC board, the tube sockets for the AC30C2 were fastened to the chassis. It bolted to the amplifier cabinet with four large machine screws. The AC30C2 steel chassis had a "C" shaped cross section. The Wharfdale speakers were designed as Greenback clones, but they take a while to "break in". So, cut the cap, throw a copper cap and a set of JJs in there and you're good to go. The cap was intended to keep the amp bright at low volumes, but ended up making any drive pedals you put in front of it sound like crazy bee hives. Second-clip the bright cap-super simple to do and there is all kinds of step by step instructions on the internet. They do not change the sound or feel of the amp except in ways you darn near have to be a dog to hear-haha. Buy a Weber Copper Cap and replace the tube with that and never worry about it again. The first is the use of the standby switch, if you do NOT want to blow rectifier tubes, do NOT use the standby switch. Those problems were fixed early on, but you were left with 2 problems. CCs are great amps that got a bad rap because of a few flaws in the first batches of them.
